Goal:
The purpose of the Instrumental Music Class at White House Heritage is to engage students in the development of the skills required to perform instrumental music on their selected instruments, the ability to read and understand music notation and rhythm, and to encourage the growth of students as musicians through solo, small ensemble, and full band experiences. As such, the band will prepare and perform several concerts throughout the year. Students are expected to attend all performances and to prepare themselves through individual goal setting and practice for these concerts as well as completing the projects assigned in class.
Grading Policy:
Participation – 100 pts. Per week which will account for 30% of grade
Concert and Rehearsal Attendance – 100 pts. Each which will count for 30% of grade
Playing tests, practice journals, recordings, and completion of class assignments – Different point levels that will account for 40% of grade
Classroom Rules:
- No food, gum, candy or drinks (excluding bottled water) allowed in the band room at any time.
- Be prepared with your instrument and music every day. If your instrument needs to be repaired, please bring a note from the repair shop.
Required Materials:
All students must bring a pencil, a notebook, and their instrument and music folders to Band each day. Students will be using various school materials, including books and sheet music. Students must treat all equipment carefully and respectfully. If a student damages any school equipment, he/she will be responsible for financially reimbursing White House Heritage High School for the cost of repair or replacement.
Concert Dress:
Concert dress is black pants, black shoes and Heritage Middle School Band Polo.
This is a tentative list of concerts. Other performances and rehearsals may be scheduled, but always well in advance.

Fundraising:
Fundraising is a vital part of supporting the band program. This allows us to not charge middle school band fees and to enable the band to continue to function at a high level. Your help in these endeavors is greatly appreciated.
