Goal:
The purpose of the Instrumental Music Class at White House Heritage is to engage students in the development of the skills required to perform instrumental music on their selected instruments, the ability to read and understand music notation and rhythm, and to encourage the growth of students as musicians through solo, small ensemble, and full band experiences. As such, the band will perform concerts and festivals throughout the semester as well as complete a folder consisting of projects which will enhance student learning and appreciation of music. Students are expected to attend all performances and to prepare themselves through individual goal setting and practice for these concerts.
Grading Policy
Participation – 100 pts. Per week which will account for 20% of grade
Concert and rehearsal attendance – 100 pts. Each which will count for 30% of grade
Playing tests– Different point levels that will account for 30% of grade
Classroom Assignments – Different point levels that will account for 20% of grade
Rehearsals and Concert Band Camp Day:
During the Fall semester, the Concert Band will rehearse during school hours. Additional rehearsal days will take place during the Spring semester and will assist in preparation for the Festival season. More information regarding these dates and expectations coming soon.
Concert Dress:
The White House Heritage Concert Band wears Formal Attire. This consists of a dress for ladies and a tuxedo for gentlemen. Black dress shoes are also expected for men and women-no sandals. The cost for this attire is $55 which is due on October 8th. This $55 covers the dress for the ladies and the tuxedo pants, shirt, bow tie and cummerbund for men. The Heritage Band Boosters provide the tuxedo jackets. This is a requirement for participation in the band program.
